Maria Menounos

In the course of caring for her mother who suffers from stage 4 brain cancer Maria found out she was facing a health crisis on her own. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. "I'd been getting lightheaded when I was on set and had headaches" she tells PEOPLE in their exclusive issue. "My speech had become slurred and I was having difficulties comprehending the Teleprompter". Menounos had been diagnosed as having a large meningioma brain tumor. An MRI confirmed the diagnosis. Menounos had an appointment scheduled with her mom's physician, renowned Neurosurgeon Dr. Keith L. Black who scheduled the surgery to be performed on June 8 - her birthday. Dr. Black stated that the tumor was 98 percent harmless. However, we wouldn't have the ability to determine when they've reached that point. The complex operation took about seven hours and the doctor. Black was capable of removing 99.9% of the benign tumor. According to her, Dr. Black stated that it is possible to see the tumor be resurrected in between 6 and 7 percent of the cases. But I will take these odds any day. After returning home to her family after an eight-day stay in the hospital, Menounos is recuperating and spending time with her mother, Litsa, whose latest MRI shows that her cancer is stable.
